Why Ring Size Matters More Than You Think
Unlike a bracelet or necklace, a ring has almost no room for error. Too tight, and it won't slide past your knuckle or will cut off circulation during a long day of wear. Method 1: The String or Paper Trick
This is the method we recommend most, because it's accurate and you almost certainly have the materials at home already.
- Step 1: Cut a thin strip of paper (no wider than about 1cm) or use a piece of non-stretchy string or thread.
- Step 2: Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on — not too tight, but snug enough that it mimics how a real ring would sit.
- Step 3: Mark the exact point where the strip overlaps itself with a pen.
- Step 4: Lay the strip flat and measure the distance from the end to your mark, in millimeters. That number is your finger's circumference.
- Step 5: Match that circumference to the closest size on a ring size chart — every ring on our site has one, listing circumference and diameter in millimeters for each available size.
Method 2: Measure a Ring You Already Own
If you have a ring that already fits the finger you're shopping for, this method is even faster. Place that ring on a ruler or a printed millimeter chart and measure the inner diameter — straight across the inside of the band, not around the outside. Compare that diameter measurement to a ring size chart to find your match.

If your measurement lands right between two sizes, we generally recommend sizing up rather than down, especially for wider bands, statement rings, or anything with a raised setting — a slightly loose ring is more comfortable day-to-day than one that pinches. Keep a few real-world factors in mind too:
- Fingers are slightly larger in heat and slightly smaller in cold, so avoid measuring right after a workout or a cold walk outside.
- Fingers naturally swell a little throughout the day, so measuring in the evening tends to give the most reliable everyday size.
- Your dominant hand's fingers are often very slightly larger than your non-dominant hand — always measure the specific finger you intend to wear the ring on.
